Hi there! I've been away for the longest amount of time that I ever have. {Did that sentence make sense? lol..} Anyway, i've had quite a bit going on..obviously.
I was scheduled to have gall bladder surgery tomorrow, but I got sick with a really yucky sinus infection and had to have a cortisone shot, so surg had to be rescheduled. Now, it is set for the 27th. Tell me i'll be okay, please! I'm terrified!!!
Now, enough about me. We took Carrah to the Opthamologist at Children's Hospital today and he confirmed that she has Oculataneous{?} Albinism, not Ocular. She is lacking the pigment in her skin and hair as well as her eyes. He doesn't think she has the Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, just that with her pigmentation being so light, it affects how they see the nerve, making it look smaller than it actually is. She is still scheduled to have an MRI done in about 2 months for safety purposes, in the case that she does have the nerve problem. But he was pretty confident that that wasn't the case. She definitely has the Albinism though. And she can definitely see :) He said he thinks of vision on three levels
1. being functionability, such as walking out of the bedroom down the hall.
2. is interacting with other children and going to school.
3. is driving.
He said he is fairly confident that she will be able to do 1 and 2 with no problems, but driving will have to be determined as she gets older. We also have to take her back in 4 months to check the progress of her vision. He said that we should know about how she sees by the time she is a year old. He also said to watch her over the next few months and notice how much better she gets. That's the good thing. Albinism can't worsen over the years, but it can improve as their brain matures.
As for right now, she is doing great. The jiggling eye movements have slowed tremendously and she is grabbing toys, everyones faces, and her feet. She's just perfect to us :)
The hardest thing is flash photography. Her pupils turn out red from the flash. I know the reasoning behind this, but I can't explain it right now. I'll have to research it more to explain. Even when she looks up at a light, her pupils appear red. It's crazy looking! So i've been trying to take some manual pictures and also trying to figure out which way to turn her toward the light so that it doesn't flash so brightly.
Like this picture, she was face toward the glass doors, so the flash didn't need to go off and it shows her pretty blue eyes, rather than big bright red pupils.

And here's that other child we call Cami, remember her? LOL! She is a riot lately!! Forget terrible twos, they were fabulous. Why didn't anyone warn me about terrible threes??? Woooo oh my, this child is not the same sweet little girl that I used to rave about. No sirree bob!
She is hilarious though. I cannot even tell you some of the funny things she says now a days. And her memory is ridiculous{iin a good way} She remembers things from like 2-4 months back!

Love this picture of Care Bear. She looks so big, doesn't she??

Here's one of her eyes after the flash went off. Oh yeah and she is rolling over now!! Such a big girl.

Taken manually.

Her new trademark. Dr says we need to keep hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen on her at all times. Precious right? Not a bad tradmark look to have.

Silly girl. You can't tell by these pictures, but she is the happiest baby ever. She smiles all the time!!

Chewing on sister's book.
