1 in 17,000 Finally Made Sense
I knew that it was very rare for albinism to affect a child, 1 in 17,000 to be exact, but it never really sunk in. That is until we went to the free zoo day. There were thousands upon thousands of people there, none of which had it. I looked over every single person walking by me, scouring them for any of the tiniest characteristics of albinism, but to no avail.
That's when it finally sunk in just how "special" she is. :) Noone can tell anything is different about her right now. They just thought she was "pimpin' " ,as one man put it, in her sunglasses. I'm sure it will become increasingly more evident that she looks different than us as she grows and that is perfectly fine.
She is definitely a rare gem to us.

I think that Carrah is truely adorable and perfect....and SPECIAL! I think that it will be easier on her when she is older, that mommy, daddy, and big sis all have blue eyes, blonde hair, and light skin.
I was the one in my family that was "different" and "special" because I had to wear a brace on my ankle and had a major limp. I never felt out of place and I thank my parents for that. We always had those shrine men with the big tall red hats following us out of the mall or grocery store but my parents always shooed them off. I think that God chose me to be different so that I could have more compasion to others and their differences. I think that I grew more from my circumstances instead of feeling sorry for myself. Just make sure you're there for Carrah anytime she wants to just cry her eyes out because someone may have made fun of her. Never let her feel different in a bad way. I know that you wouldn't ever because I know how great of a mommy you are but I'm just letting you know what really helped me. Also, one of Rick's good friends has albinism and he is no different than anyone else. The only problem that he has is that his vision is impaired but he can still drive. I'm so glad that you are able to look at all of this through a positive light! I'm also so proud of you for staying strong through it all. You really are an amazing mommy, woman, and friend!
I went to high school with a boy that had it. He had the most beautiful white hair :)

I think she's gorgeous, and I can't see that changing. I showed a friend your hair bows, and she said, "Wow! Her kids are so cute!" =)

Awe, she's a total cutie. I have a google alert for albinism and your blog came up. I'm an adult with albinism. For what it's worth, every time I go to the hair salon everyone oohhss and aaahhs over my hair. Grin!

I had no idea! She is a little doll and you really do have beautiful girls. Emersyn has that pink and white polka dotted outfit, although it is too small for her now. One of my favorite outfits though!!!!
